Turn a YouTube cooking video into a written recipe

Send a recipe video from YouTube into Stokd and get the ingredients and method as an editable recipe, without scrubbing back through the video.

FROM YOUTUBE, ON IPHONE

Five taps, start to finish.

YouTube is the one place a full recipe often does exist in writing, sitting in the description under a wall of links. The problem is reaching it mid-cook, on a phone, with the video playing. Sharing the video into Stokd lifts the recipe out and leaves the sponsor reads behind.

  1. Step 1

    Open a video

Tap Share on any recipe video.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What Stokd keeps.

What imports
Long-form cooking videos usually carry the complete ingredient list in the description, which imports cleanly. Shorts behave more like TikTok and are worth checking after import.
Worth knowing
Works from a video URL, so a link copied on a desktop and pasted in also works.
Editable
Every imported recipe is a draft. Review the title, ingredients, quantities and steps, and change anything that does not match how you cook.
Counts towards
Your weekly import allowance. Stokd Free includes 5 a week, and chef ranks raise that at no cost.

ON ANDROID, OR FROM A BROWSER

Paste the link instead.

The share sheet above is the iPhone route. Anywhere else, copying the link and pasting it into Stokd does the same job.

  1. Step 1

    Find a recipe

Browse any food blog, magazine, or cooking site. If it has a recipe, Stokd can import it.

  2. Step 2

    Copy the page URL

Tap the address bar in your browser and copy the full URL of the recipe page.

  3. Step 3

    Open Import in Stokd

Tap the Import button on the home screen, or go to the URL Import tab.

  4. Step 4

    Paste and import

Paste the URL and tap Import. Stokd extracts the ingredients, steps and cook time in seconds.

QUESTIONS

YouTube questions.

Does the description matter?

A great deal. Most long-form cooking channels publish the full ingredient list and method in the video description, and that is what imports most cleanly.

Do YouTube Shorts work?

Yes, though Shorts behave more like TikTok: the recipe is often spoken rather than written, so review the import before shopping.

Can I paste a link from my computer?

Yes. Copy the video URL on any device and paste it into Stokd's URL import. You do not need the share sheet.

OTHER SOURCES

Save from somewhere else.

SAVED, THEN WHAT

A saved recipe should lead somewhere.

Once the video is in Stokd it can be checked against your pantry, turned into a shopping list of what you are missing, and cooked from step by step. See how the whole loop works.
